If Sunday (1994) has perfected their sound (they have), their aesthetic is right there with it. Along with their dreamy sound and angelic vocals, they are known for their digital camera-quality photos and videos that populate their socials. The lead singer is most likely to be caught in a flowy gown or, true to their name, in ’90s-esque glamor.
While iconic, their visual aesthetic is just the beginning of what Sunday (1994) has to offer. With the release of their EP Devotion, they prove that they are here to make a statement with their music. Captivating lyrics and melodies that merge past and present make every song impossible to turn off. Allow us to paint you a picture of each song off Devotion by pairing them with one of lead singer Paige Turner’s stylish looks.
‘Devotion’
“High life, low income” is perhaps the line that sums up the EP. With a DIY style, along with lyrics about drives down American back roads and late-night pubs, nothing will stop Sunday (1994) from finding the charm in their lives. As such, these were the lyrics printed on the sign held high over Paige’s head as she sang ‘Devotion’ on stage in Columbus, Ohio. The floor-length, baby pink dress that accompanied (shown here) it screams romanticizing, even the dirty bar floors.
‘Doomsday’
With the dark edge to ‘Doomsday,’ we can only give you the black dress and boots featured in the post here. She sings about being in love, but it’s anything but carefree. She waits for something to go wrong, for something to disturb what peace she has. Even as she thinks that it’s the best love she’s had, she prepares for the end.
‘Rain’
We’re giving you something cool and casual for this one. Perhaps it’s because we don’t want you to ruin such a nice dress dancing outside in the rain. Or maybe the slow, steady melody just feels more “everyday but also cute” than ballgown glamor. Whatever the reason, we feel this sweater/skirt/trench coat combo (as seen here) is the perfect representation of ‘Rain.’
‘Still Blue’
Paige described this song as coming out on the other side of a tough time. Paired with the infectious melody, the declaration that she should “take a walk while the sky is still blue” suggests this white dress. Perfect for frolicking in a field, it makes us believe that sometimes what we need to feel better, at least for a little while, is to get dressed up and feel the sun.
‘Picking Flowers’
In ‘Picking Flowers,’ we hear a bit of innocence, of learning to accept life’s changes. This dress is perfect for spring: the time for rebirth, change, and, of course, for flowers. We can only imagine how a bouquet of flowers of all colors would complement the dress.
‘Silver Ford’
Somehow, the short dress pictured here seems right for waiting on someone to pick you up in their ‘Silver Ford.’ You’re in your best dress, so as to impress and to feel your best, but also casual enough to go for a drive, and to see where your night takes you. It feels like taking a chance on the spark you feel with a new person, and the thrill of climbing into the unknown with them.
And now you’ll fit right in with Sunday (1994) as you listen to Devotion on repeat for the foreseeable future. Let us know which one is your favorite over at @thehoneypop on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook!
