The wait is over- Arm’s Length’s sophomore album, There’s A Whole World Out There, is finally here. And yeah, we did need a minute to truly process this masterpiece. Sometimes a band drops a debut album so magnificent you wonder how they’ll ever top it. That’s exactly what Arm’s Length did with Never Before Seen, Never Again Found. However, There’s A Whole World Out There immediately destroys any/all of those concerns while leaving zero room for comparison to its predecessor outside of insane lyric parallels.

‘Fatal Flaw’

Let’s talk about those lyrics, shall we? Arm’s Length should win a Pulitzer for writing the most gut-wrenching and illuminating lines in the game. Take their fourth single ‘Fatal Flaw’ for example:

“The moon keeps the sun at arm’s length, for she fears she would get burned. They have joint custody of Earth, they just take turns. Another trip around the sun, why does it feel like one too much? Each year’s another wound, death by a thousand cuts.”

This song perfectly dissects the reality of feeling like you’ve lost touch with the person you used to be, and now you’re left wondering if they’d admire who you’ve become.

“The lyric “look at what you’ve done” in the chorus is meant to be both accusatory and sentimental, looking back at what you’ve accomplished. It’s a classic Arm’s Length tune with a catchy chorus and big dramatic bridge!” – Allen Steinberg

‘Palinopsia’

And what if we told you that isn’t even close to the most devastating lines from this album? Our personal heart-wrenching fav is ‘Palinopsia.’ We’d be lying if we said this song didn’t genuinely bring us to tears as we listened for the first time.

“I’ve loved you long enough, my limbs still twitched when you took my head clean off. I was defined by someone I have bad dreams of. At least I knew who I was.”

What we can say with utmost confidence is that we were born in the right generation. We love Canadian band Arm’s Length, pop-punk, and Allen Steinberg for being so vulnerable with his personal struggles. If you’re lucky enough to be in the same area as the band this summer, make sure to catch them on tour. There truly is nothing like getting slapped in the face by ‘Dirge’ as a setlist opener!
