Lorde’s fourth studio album, Virgin, drops at the end of this week. We’re gearing up for the big release by streaming her singles, ‘What Was That?,’ ‘Man Of The Year,’ and more recently, ‘Hammer.’ Lorde’s third single, ‘Hammer,’ is just a taste of what we will be hearing on Virgin, and it’s got us even more excited for the full album release coming soon.

The Music Video
A Lorde music video never fails to be absolutely spectacular every.single.time. The music video for ‘Hammer’ just might be our favorite Lorde music video yet. It’s so beautiful and feels like we’re watching an old-school film about love, self-transformation, and growing up. These themes seem to be present throughout the other singles from Virgin, and we’re looking forward to hearing more on June 27th!

The Lyrics
The lyrics on ‘Hammer’ absolutely deliver and crushed us with each listen. Here were our favorite lyrical moments that sent us over “the edge.”
“Don’t know if it’s love or if it’s ovulation”
“Anyone with a snake tongue, I show ’em the chambers of my heart”
“I run and I sing and I skip and I dance”
“Take an aura picture/Read it and tell me who I am”
“But I’ve sent you a postcard from the edge”
It’s clear that Virgin has lyrically challenged Lorde and will give us a side to hear that we’ve yet to hear from her. With every new Lorde album, from Solar Power to Melodrama, we’re learning new things about ourselves and our favorite artist.
