It’s not often you get to celebrate a K-Pop idol’s birthday with them IRL, is it? But it happened to us! We joined Big Ocean at the London date of their first Europe Tour, and it just so happened to be on main vocalist PJ’s birthday! As well as being some of the luckiest PADOs ever, we’re also incredibly passionate about independent music venues and highlighting artists from small labels. So as you can imagine, getting to review Big Ocean on tour was a total dream come true!
Underwater Meets The Underworld
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when the decadence of K-Pop collides with intimate, independent venues, Big Ocean’s tour show at The Underworld was the answer. You might think that this kind of opulence wouldn’t translate on such a small stage, but you’d be dead wrong. Even without screens, VCRs, fancy effects, or set pieces, Big Ocean made the basement venue feel so much bigger. It shouldn’t have worked, but somehow, it did!
They’re Pros Already
No concert is perfect. And hey, even the best get a little tech mishap every now and then. But even when one third of Big Ocean literally didn’t even have a microphone, the group still handled it like the pros that they are. Even more so, they turned the incident into an opportunity to engage even further with fans, making like of the situation and even taking the time to gift one-of-a-kind to some of the audience.
The Setlist
We wouldn’t be providing you with a good review of Big Ocean’s tour if we didn’t let you know the setlist, would we?
- ‘Flow’
- ‘BLOW’
- ‘Glow’
- ‘Attention’
- ‘Sinking’
- ‘Fade Out’
- ‘End of Time’
- ‘Slow’
The Encore
Now, as if celebrating PJ’s birthday wasn’t enough, they also celebrated the birthday of two PADOs, who were literally pulled onto stage by Big Ocean themselves. The fans got to introduce themselves to a very warm (in energy and in literal temperature) crowd, chat to Big Ocean, and were given more of those one-of-a-kind polaroids from the group. The whole moment was so sweet, with the crowd serenading both PJ and PADO with ‘Happy Birthday.’ All in all, it just added to the long list of tender moments that have come courtesy of this very sweet group.
Big Ocean brought it all home with a fan-favorite, ‘Slow,’ for the final song of the night, leaving us all in a state of euphoria and a lot of tears. So, if you weren’t there, we’re sorry to say that you truly missed out! But hey, keep your eyes peeled for their next tour, because after this night? We’re already counting down the days until they’re back in Europe.
